Romania’s Catalina Ponor, five-time Olympic medalist, in her silver medal winning performance on floor exercise at the 2012 Olympic Games. Ponor, a three-time Olympic gold medalist from the 2004 Games in Athens, retired after the Games, then came back in 2011 to make Romania’s World Championship team and then the Olympic team in 2012. She helped her team to a bronze-medal finish in the team final in addition to her individual silver.
Somehow I manage to get all worked-up and patriotic for the Olympics every single time. I even shed some tears for the national anthem. I guess I never thought I’d be prone to that kind of emotional belonging.
